Thanks for this sensible workaround - great instructions and works exactly right.

How to manage these "template" files on the iPad:

I found that having the template files listing in my iPad presentation list was annoying, given we can neither reorder them nor group them as yet.

I have zipped them and added them to the iPad (via iTunes) into GoodReader.

Unzipped in GoodReader they sit in their own folder. (They can be added individually as well - but couldn't see how to add a folder.)

I open the 'template' in Good Reader, then choose to open in Keynote.

This opens a clean copy in Keynote, no danger of overwriting the "template" copy, and I can have as many templates as I like on the iPad where I can reach them, online, in the same network, or not.
